Depression as a graduate student

Reflections on my PhD are posted on my Facebook page. Here is an example.

I have suffered from clinical depression since I was a teenager. I had been in therapy and on anti-depressants for most of my adult life. Starting my PhD made it even worse.
I was very depressed, sad, and lonely.
Luckily, the school had mental health services available free for students. I had a wonderful therapist, Caroline West at UAB. Without her, I would not have finished.
I was so grateful, I listed her in my acknowledgements in my dissertation.

If you feel you are in need of mental health, find a professional that can help you. There is no shame in getting the services you need. If you need to be on anti-depressants, do that as well. Take care of yourself!
